As an international center of excellence in the social sciences, Sciences Po has established exchange partnerships with 350 universities worldwide.

Students from any of these partner universities can come to Sciences Po on an exchange programme. The period of their stay at Sciences Po will be of one semester or one year, depending on their home university’s policy. Exchange students will continue paying their fees at their home university and will usually get credits for marks obtained at Sciences Po.

Graduate exchange programs

Open courses catalogue for exchange students in Master

Students pursuing a graduate degree in a partner university may choose to complete part of their master program, usually one semester, at Sciences Po.  Exchange students can choose from a full range of Sciences Po master’s courses (however not all courses are open to exchange students, Master courses in  Journalism or International development economics are not accessible and some courses in Finance and strategy requires prior knowledge) : they are integrated into the Sciences Po student body and are considered as full-time students.

Students wishing to come to Sciences Po on an exchange at Master level must apply through the International office in their home university. Students should be selected by their home university to come on an exchange to Sciences Po and all applications should go through the home university.

In order to participate on an exchange at Sciences Po at the graduate level, students must have successfully completed a B.A. or at least three full university years. They should consult their home universitie's policies regarding course requirements for obtaining their Master degree.

Language requirements for international exchange students

Sciences Po considers that students need to attain a certain language level in order to participate actively in courses taught in languages other than their mother tongue or the language of teaching at their home institution.

We therefore require International students coming to Sciences Po as part of an exchange agreement to demonstrate their language proficiency in French (if they wish to enrol in classes taught in French) and in English (if they wish to enrol classes taught in English).  We strongly encourage students to inform us of scores obtained on recognised language tests, as this will enable them to enrol in classes without passing the Sciences Po placement test.

The required proficiency levels are:

- French
If your mother tongue and/or the language of the teaching at your home institution is not French and if you wish to enrol in classes taught in French, you will need to provide evidence of:
At least a European level B1, corresponding to a score of 300 on the TCF or to a level DELF B1.

Students coming from US universities are invited to contact their Study abroad advisor in order to fill out the appropriate language level form.

- English
If your mother tongue and/or the language of the teaching at your home institution is not English and if you wish to enrol in classes taught in English, you will need to provide evidence of:
At least a European level B2, corresponding to a score of 80 on the TOEFL IBT (Internet Based Test) or of 6 on the IELTS.
We accept equivalent scores of all other major English language proficiency tests

All students who do not provide test scores will have to pass the Sciences Po online placement test before enrolling in classes. This exam will evaluate your language skills and place you in a language level from 1-5. (5 being the highest)  In order to be eligible to enrol in classes in French at Sciences Po, you must be placed in or above level 2 French. In order to enrol in classes in English at Sciences Po, you will need to obtain level 3 in English.
